Christmas is 67 days away today. Here is exactly how we work out that number, so you can trust it and check it yourself.
Last updated: · Counted in US Eastern Time, then adjusted to your time zone.
Days Until Christmas
We count calendar days from today to Christmas Day, December 25. Today is not counted. Christmas Day is counted. For example, on December 24 we show 1 day, and on December 25 we show “It is Christmas Day!”
The Live Timer
The live timer counts down to midnight (12:00 a.m.) at the start of December 25 in your local time zone. It updates every second. Because it stops at midnight, the timer can show one day fewer than the day count. In Settings you can change the time zone or count to another time on Christmas Day.
Time Zones
The numbers written in our page are set in US Eastern Time (New York) and refresh every night at midnight Eastern. When the page loads, your browser uses your device clock and time zone to update every number. Daylight Saving Time changes are handled for you.
Sleeps
Sleeps are the nights left before Christmas morning. The number of sleeps is the same as the number of days. On Christmas Eve there is one sleep left. Naps do not count.
Weeks, Months and Fortnights
Weeks are the days divided by 7, shown as full weeks plus extra days. Months are counted on the calendar, for example from October 19 to December 19 is two months. A fortnight is 14 days.
Weekdays, Weekends and Shopping Days
We count the full days between today and Christmas, so today and December 25 are left out. Weekdays are Monday to Friday. A weekend is counted once for each Saturday. Shopping days are Monday to Saturday, up to and including Christmas Eve.
Shipping Deadlines
Shipping dates come from the official USPS, FedEx and Royal Mail holiday pages. When a carrier has not posted its dates, we show “Not announced yet” or mark our estimate with “est.” We check the dates again each week in November and December.
After Christmas
At midnight after Christmas Day, the countdown resets. On December 26 it starts counting to the next Christmas.
